Where To Stay And Party In The Hamptons This Summer

$

0

hamptons poolFor many New Yorkers, heading to the Hamptons isn’t just about the beach — it’s about the hopping nightlife.

When the weather gets warm, it’s the Hamptons, not Manhattan, that becomes the place to see and be seen after dark.

The first step in planning your Hamptons party weekend is choosing where to sleep when the partying is done, and we’ve saved you time by selecting five hotels to suit different tastes — and pairing each with a cool party spot of a similar style.

Don’t forget your designated driver.

Stay: The Trendy Hot Spot

The 24-room Capri Southampton received a beach-chic makeover in 2011, and the new owners brought in a BLT Steak and Lacoste uniforms for outdoor staff.

These brand names attract a certain social crowd — the kind that drinks champagne and munches on seafood while mingling poolside.

Party: The Bathing Club

At this trendy hotel, the party is at your front door — literally.

The rooms are all on the first floor and doors open up right to the grounds that surround the pool lounge, dubbed The Bathing Club.

Lounge music pumps through the outdoor speakers, and live DJs spin on Fridays and Saturday nights.

Guests can relax on daybeds and cushioned chairs, and on the weekends cocktails are served by the pool until 2 a.m.

Stay: The Cheap Crash Pad

Finding an affordable spot to crash in the ritzy Hamptons is no easy feat — but it does exist.

The Enclave Inn is a basic 10-room motel with close proximity to Bridgehampton and nearby beaches.

Rooms are uninteresting and starting to show wear and tear, but the front porches, outdoor pool, and a pretty lawn allow some breathing space.

If you need a cheap place to sleep within driving distance to all that the Hamptons has to offer, then this is a good choice.

Party: Boardy Barn

Boardy Barn is a Hamptons institution, known for its cheap beer, cheap hot dogs, and smiley face stickers that patrons are encouraged to stick on each other (expect to leave covered in them).

The raucous daytime drinking scene starts on Sunday afternoons over the summer, and there is always a line.

It’s located in Hampton Bays, but those in town for the weekend may prefer to stay in neighboring Bridgehampton as it’s more convenient for hitting up the beach.

Stay: The Chichi B&B

Those looking for a quiet, romantic, upscale Hamptons experience should consider Mill House Inn, a meticulously maintained historic home turned bed and breakfast in East Hampton.

It’s just a short walk from the village center and offers 10 understated, sophisticated rooms that are full of thoughtful personal touches.

The top-notch breakfast and easy walk to restaurants and shops help make it a stand-out option.

Party: SL East

The chic trendsetters who can afford Mill House Inn may appreciate this upscale nightclub located just down the road.

It’s the Hamptons outpost of SL in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, and the line can be very long (be prepared to shell out for bottle service if you want to get in).

Once you do get in, you’ll find a huge dance hall and terrace with cabanas; there are live DJ and music performances certain nights.

restaurant

Every new summer brings  fresh stores, clubs, and restaurants to the Hamptons — but some things never change on the Long Island shore.

Zagat has ranked the top restaurants in the Hamptons for this year, and unsurprisingly all of the old faithfuls are still there.

All ten scored over 26 in the food category of the survey's 30-point scale, which according to Zagat means the meal was considered "extraordinary to perfection."

From North Fork Table to the Plaza Café, here are the places you'll need to book a table in advance this summer.

10. The Palm

94 Main St., East Hampton

Food:  26
Decor:  20
Service:  23
Cost: $71

The Palm is located in a 300-year-old building on East Hampton's Main Street with a dark, old-school ambiance.

Part of an upscale steakhouse chain, The Palm is also well-known for its impeccable lobsters and huge cocktails.

9. Harvest on Fort Pond

11 S. Emery St., Montauk

Food:  26
Decor:  22
Service:  22
Cost: $53

Located (where else?) on Fort Pond, this Tuscan restaurant has its own herb, vegetable, and flower garden.

The entrées at Harvest on Ford Pond are so big that two people can share one, and it's ideal for a summer evening while watching the sun set.

8. Noah's

136 Front St., Greenport

Food:  26
Decor:  18
Service:  21
Cost: $50

This small plates-style restaurant features fresh seafood in the dining room and at the raw bar.

Noah's can get a bit noisy, but once everyone digs in, you'll forget everything but the fabulous food.

There Are More Million Dollar Hamptons Rentals Than Ever

$
0
0

Georgica Pond compound East HamptonIf you think your rent is high, consider summer rentals in the Hamptons.

Brokers say there are now at least a half dozen homes and estates in the Hamptons that are renting for around $1 million—just for the summer.

That works out to $9,803 per day, or $408 an hour. And the $1 million lease doesn't include utility bills or other charges, which can run in the tens of thousands.

Brokers say the number of million-dollar rentals marks a new record.

"It's unprecedented," said H. Dolly Lenz, a Manhattan broker who also works with buyers and renters in the Hamptons. "The demand is not just strong, it's unbelievable."

Most of the million-dollar rentals are unofficial listings, which means they don't show up on the Internet or on broker databases. Brokers generally offer the properties only by word-of-mouth to super-rich prospects.

Yet realtors say at least two properties have already rented for at or close to $1 million for the summer and several others are in active discussions.

Lenz and others say the surge in Hamptons rentals is being driven by hedge funders, the stock market and the super-rich from Russia, Germany, Italy and other countries.

(Read More: Wealthy Give Tax Coffers a Big Boost)

Pat Petrillo of Sotheby's International Realty in Southampton said the people who rent their homes for $1 million or more are generally "very wealthy themselves," but plan on spending part of the summer in Europe or elsewhere.

"They say, 'Look if someone will pay $1 million for the summer, we'll consider it,'" she said. "They'd be crazy not to."

And who are the renters? No one will name names. But brokers said the renter of one million-dollar rental in Southampton is a wealthy Russian who has rented in the Hamptons before. Another renter in talks for another million-dollar rental is "in finance," according to one broker.

What do you get for your $1 million summer?

Try a property in Water Mill that's renting for around a million for the summer that includes a 14,000-square-foot main house, with eight bedrooms, 10 baths and a home theater. It also has a tennis court, pool and a large guest house.

(Read More: The Booming Business of Shipping Yachts)

An estate in Southampton that recently rented for close to $1 million has an 18,000-square-foot house with 12 bedrooms and 12 baths along with a sprawling guest house and pool house. A tennis court and heated pool are on the 10-acre property. For those who like to do their swimming indoors, the estate has a massive indoor swimming pool with waterfalls and a water slide.

Of course, some million-dollar rentals will never find actual renters. Harald Grant of Sotheby's International Southampton said that "there are really only a few properties that can command that price and the rest are just hoping."

He added that while the Hamptons rental market was on fire in the early spring, it's since cooled a bit after prospective renters decided to buy instead.

"There are a surprising number of properties still available," he said. "Even some oceanfront properties are still available. For a price of course."

Some of the most famous millionaires on the planet own homes in the Hamptons.

But even the 1% have a 1% — and in the Hamptons, there's no more ritzy and expensive address than Meadow Lane in Southampton, according to Forbes' Morgan Brennan.

The median sale price on Meadow Lane last year was just under $18 million, according to Property Shark.

And the five-mile road has a helipad to whisk residents off to Manhattan in under 20 minutes.

Brennan recently wrote about the denizens of Meadow Lane for Forbes; we're taking a closer look at some of these mega-wealthy property owners and their mansions.

Meadow Lane is one of the most expensive addresses in the country, and no wonder — it runs along a coveted beachfront strip in one of the most exclusive towns in the Hamptons.

HOUSE OF THE DAY: A Real Estate Tycoon Is Selling His Insane Hamptons Home For $58.5 Million

Hamptons White HouseReal estate investor Andrew Borrok has once again listed his 20,000-square-foot mansion in the Hamptons for $58.5 million, according to The Real Deal.

The eight-bedroom home in Water Mill was first listed for the same price back in 2010, The New York Post reported. Borrok originally bought the property in 2003 for $3.6 million.

The estate, which is currently listed with Douglas Elliman, has a tennis court, Jacuzzi, infinity pool, eight fireplaces, a wine cellar, and a private pier right on Mecox Bay. It sits on four acres of land.

The property also comes installed with Crestron security cameras that can be controlled and monitored from anywhere in the world — an important security measure for anyone willing to spend $58 million on a house.

The home was previously listed with Douglas Elliman for an undisclosed price back in January of this year.

Two Ways To Travel To The Hamptons By Seaplane This Summer

stndair seaplane

The decision to spend a summer weekend on the beaches of Long Island need not begin with dread for the long train ride/car trip/bus journey to the Hamptons.

There are other options, but a faster, more comfortable ride will of course cost.

Did somebody say seaplane? In 40+ minutes from Manhattan's East River seaplane port, small planefuls reach the shores of East Hampton, Montauk and beyond.

Here are the two companies with regularly scheduled flights:

StndAIR

The plane: Cessna 208 Caravan floatplane, seating 8

The destinations: Manhattan to East Hampton, Shelter Island, Montauk, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Provincetown and anywhere else on the eastern seaboard should you wish to charter the entire plane.

The prices: Starting from $525 per person, one-way, for NYC to/from East Hampton. In past years, StndAIR has offered initial $99 seats on flights, so long as they fill up.

Freebies: rosé wine, Swedish fish in-flight snack, a toiletry kit from Aesop, a collection of short stories, and an in-flight edition of The Standard's "StandardCulture" publication.

Fly the Whale

The plane: Cessna 208 Caravan floatplane, seating 8. Formerly owned by Jimmy Buffett.

The destinations: Manhattan to East Hampton, Atlantic City, Westchester to Nantucket or Hyannis, Martha's Vineyard, and anywhere along the eastern seaboard via charter, including landing yacht-side.

The prices: $535 per person, one-way, for NYC to/from East Hampton. They also offer $99 last-minute rates publicized on their Facebook

Freebies: None, but "frequent whalers" receive significant discounts for purchasing packs of 10 or 20 flights.

There Is No Better Way To Get To The Hamptons Than In A Seaplane

$
0
0

aerial view sag harbor hamptonsFor New Yorkers, there's nothing better than escaping the city on a hot summer weekend.

But getting out of town is another story.

Anyone who's ever tried to get to the Hamptons on a Friday afternoon knows the traffic on the Long Island Expressway can be hellish, and the train  while faster this year  can still devolve into a drunken frat party.

There is, however, another way to hightail it from the city to the Hamptons: by seaplane. Not only is it a quick, 40-minute (or so) hop from the East River seaport to destinations out east, there's no chance of traffic or unpleasant passengers, and the view is pretty spectacular.

Of course, there's also the matter of cost.

Seaplane operator Fly The Whale, one of several companies that offers the service, charges $3,250 to $3,500 for a private charter for eight to the Hamptons. Single seats on "shared charters" cost $535.

I recently got to take a Fly The Whale seaplane from Manhattan to the Hamptons as part of a trip to see a luxury condo complex being built in Sag Harbor. It sure beat Penn Station at rush hour.

Disclosure: Sag Development Partners, the owners of the Watchcase development in Sag Harbor, paid for my travel expenses.

My trip started from the marina at 23rd Street and the FDR on the East River. I took the subway and walked a few blocks, but if I was a seaplane regular, my limo would have dropped me off here.

The seaplane terminal is pretty nondescript. The corrugated iron building and barbed wire didn't exactly make me feel like a high roller.

It was just a short walk from the "skyport" to the river. I passed a couple of yachts available for charter: one was being rented for a high school prom that evening.

We imagine that the hedge fund manager, identified only as "Mr. C",  probably needs those "movie set" generators — Bloomberg machines suck up a lot of power.

It all started out early this morning:

There Are Finally Luxury Condos For Sale In The Hamptons [Photos]

$

1_SH_factory_entrance_0204Watchcase, a new condominium complex that's under construction in Sag Harbor, is like no other property in the Hamptons.

There are almost no other condos on the East End, and none as luxurious as Watchcase  which is being built in a dilapidated factory building that's being painstakingly restored  making it an attractive option for wealthy buyers who want convenience.

"There's a trend of people who don't want to deal with the extravagant costs and year-round stress of home ownership out east," said James Lansill, managing director of Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group, which is heading up sales.

They've seen significant interest from European jetsetters who want to come and go as they please, current Hamptons homeowners who want to simplify their lifestyles, and longtime renters, said Gordon Hoppe, SVP at Corcoran.

The 64 homes at Watchcase won't be completed until next winter, but they are already flying off the market: 22 contracts have gone out so far on residences, which are priced between $1.02 million and $10.2 million.

I recently took a seaplane to Sag Harbor to tour the development. It's still a construction pit, but I got a good idea of what Watchcase will look like when it's finished from the model apartment and renderings.

Between the history and location, it's easy to see why buyers are going crazy for it.

First, a bit of history. Sag Harbor was a major whaling town in the early 1800s, and thrived as an industrial center. The factory building that's being converted into luxury condos was originally a cotton mill. Watch manufacturer Bulova later took it over for watchcase production.

The building, located right off Sag Harbor's Main Street and a couple of blocks from the water, was abandoned in the 1980s and became a huge eyesore for the community.

Instead of demolishing the factory and constructing something new, developer Cape Advisors decided to restore the the building and convert it into luxury apartments. When it's finished, it should be restored to its former glory.

6 Awesome Hamptons Hotels To Visit This Summer

$
0
0

capri southampton

While the extremely well-off have their own mansions in The Hamptons to motor helicopter out to every weekend this summer, the rest of us will have to make do with some temporary lodgings.

If you don't feel like sharing a house with eight randoms or if you think you will only make it out for a couple of weekends, then hotels are the way to go. And fortunately, the Hamptons have been making some headway in the hotel scene, mainly in Montauk.

Here are 6 hotels you may want to check into to check out the Hamptons scene.

Warning: They are expensive, even during the week.

Surf Lodge: $495

The Surf Lodge in Montauk is known more for its nightlife, which includes stellar concert performances every weekend (Willie Nelson!), and its restaurant, Byron, rather than its hotel rooms but should you lay your weary but well-coiffed head here you won't be disappointed by the breezy light colors and the beachy, if minimalist, decor.

Rates start at $495 a night for a room with a queen bed in mid-June. But rooms seem to be going fast.

The Crow's Nest Inn and Restaurant, Lake Montauk: $500

Run by hotelier Sean MacPherson, the Crow's Nest is a very intimate hotel about a mile and a half miles east of Montauk with just 14 rooms, each with a king bed and a private deck.

If you love the Bowery and the Maritime Hotels, then Crow's Nest is right up your Hamptons getaway alley.

The property also has a two bedroom cottage available for rent and Guest of a Guest reports that two more cottages named The David Pharaoh Cottages (named after the last Native American king of Montauk), will be available for rent soon as well.

These will have access to a private beach, along with kitchenettes and a private lakefront patio.

Rooms start at $500 a night for a weekend in mid-June. The cottages will, of course, be much higher.

Montauk Yacht Club Resort and Marina: $499

This is a full-service resort with four restaurants and bars, a spa, two outdoor pools, family and kids programs and as promised, boats. Lots of boats.

Real Housewives love this place too since Kelly Bensimon will be hosting a book signing party there on Saturday, June 1 from 3 to 5pm.

Her book? "In the Spirit of The Hamptons." Fitting!

Rates start at $499 a night for an Admiral room with two double beds or a Villa room with a king bed.

A Late Legendary Value Investor's Hamptons Chateau Has Sold For $21 Million

CHATEAU AMOROIS

Curbed reports that "Chateau Aromois", a beautiful East Hampton home built by late value investor Christopher Browne, has sold for $21 million.

It's unclear who the buyer is, but they definitely got a stunning summer home and for much less than the asking price.

The five-bedroom, five and half bathroom home listed by Brown Harris Stevens was initially put on the market for $28.5 million. The price tag was recently reduced to $22.9 million.

Browne, a famous value investor and the co-founder of mutual fund company Tweedy Browne, did much of the lush landscaping on the property himself, according to Curbed. He died three years ago of a heart attack. He was 62.

Here's an aerial shot of the property.

Nick and Toni’s

136 North Main St., East Hampton

After 25 years of playing host to high-profile diners like Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Steven Spielberg, Gwyneth Paltrow, Richard Gere and Martha Stewart, the restaurant upped its own glamour with an interior overhaul. The house’s charm remains intact, but it gained panache in the form of new black-walnut tables, leather banquettes and high-tops by the bar. New dishes include salad with breakfast radishes and toasted hazelnuts in an herb vinaigrette; arugula and kale salad with grapefruit and avocado vinaigrette; sea scallop crudo with ramp aïoli, pea vines and black salt; and seared Broken Arrow Ranch antelope with spring vegetable hash, enhanced with produce from Nick and Toni’s garden. Who knows - you may be in the bathroom line next to Alec Baldwin.

The Living Room at c/o The Maidstone

207 Main St., East Hampton

Chef Mathais Brogie arrived from Stockholm to take the reins at this Scandinavian-accented restaurant this summer. He's kept standards like lamb meatballs with sheep ricotta gnudi, and herring three ways with pickled red onion, sour cream, Vasterbotten cheese and potato. New offerings range from iced watermelon soup with feta cheese, sage and mint to Long Island chicken with summer bulghur, pistachios and curry caper butter to marinated lamb with spicy carrot and fiddlehead ferns.

Babette's

66 Newtown Ln., East Hampton

The health-oriented spot in the middle of East Hampton has always been packed for breakfast with regulars like Bon Jovi, Paul McCartney, Jay-Z and Ron Perelman. Bill Clinton celebrates his birthday there every August with an organic carrot cake. Current owner Barbara Layton has broadened her dinner offerings, and the nighttime scene is gaining momentum. Check out pan-roasted, sesame-crusted tofu or tempeh with steamed edamame, shiitake mushrooms, and red quinoa, or savor the grilled organic salmon with asparagus, oyster mushrooms, crisp polenta and a tomatillo sauce. Organic cocktails like the cucumber-lime margarita or pomegranate martini are made with fresh juice, and when the lights go down and the candles glow, the dining room becomes surprisingly romantic.

AIRPORT TRAFFIC WATCH: A Helicopter Partly Owned By Tiger Global And Bon Jovi Is Headed To The Hamptons

Hamptons airport

The Fourth of July is almost here and that means Wall Streeters will be heading east to the Hamptons.

They won't all be driving or taking the train or the jitney. Instead, some of them will fly just because they can.

We've been keeping an eye on the airport traffic at the East Hampton Airport (KHTO) via FlightAware.com.

There's a lot of activity there and we expect it will be picking up more in the coming days.

What's more is you can also look up who owns the plane or helicopter on the FAA's data base using the "n-number."

During our search, we found a Bell 430, a twin-engine helicopter (N432HF), partly owned by hedge fund/private equity firm Tiger Global.  Tiger Global's founder Chase Coleman is not on the flight, though.

It's scheduled to take off at 5:23 p.m. EDT from Newark and land at 6:17 p.m. EDT, according to FlightAware.com.

The other owners of the helicopter include Wells Fargo Bank Northwest NA Trustee, Mark B. Grier, Greenfield Rotorcraft Holdings, Joseph S. Plumeri, Park Avenue Helicopter, Bristol-Meyers Squibb and Air Bon Jovi, FAA records show. You can see photos of the helicopter here >

Uber Is Offering A $3,000 Helicopter Ride To The Hamptons On July 4, And Actually It's A Great Deal

$

0

memorial day traffic helicopter

To help New Yorkers going to the Hamptons this 4th of July avoid hellish traffic, popular on-demand car service Uber is offering an unusual deal: For $3,000, you and four friends can fly out in a helicopter, complete with a driver to take you to and from each helipad.

It's a terrific deal.

There are cheaper ways to get out to the beach, of course. Taking the Jitney bus or the Long Island Rail Road to East Hampton costs just $27.

But if you want to cut a multi-hour trip down to about 40 minutes and take in some amazing sights along the way, above the traffic is the way to go. And it's hard to find a flight for less than $3,000.

New York Helicopter offers charters for six passengers to East Hampton for $3,350. The same trip with HeliNY, for five passengers, costs $3,680. You can take a round trip for just $4,115, but you'll pay $300 for every hour in between the two flights.

HeliFlite does not publish its rates, but CEO Kurt Carlson said a trip for five people from the city to East Hampton in one of the company's executive class whirlybirds would likely cost a "little bit more" than $3,000.

The closest we could find to a better deal than Uber's comes from Awesome Flight. The one-way ride costs just $1,597, but the chopper fits only three passengers. So your group of five would need two charters, bringing the price to $3,194.

The Only Alternative

There is one way to fly to the Hamptons for less than $3,000: Go by seaplane. We've already determined it's the best way to make the trip, and if you buy individual tickets with Sound Aircraft, instead of chartering an entire whole plane, your group of five can get to the beach in 45 minutes for just $525 each.

That's a total of $2,625, leaving you with more than enough money to hire a car to get to and from each marina in style. And unlike the Uber deal, which is valid July 3 only, you can hop aboard all summer.

The Mother of Billionaire Bruce Wasserstein's Lovechild Says The 5-Year-Old Should Get To Use His Hamptons Home

$

bruce wasserstein

NEW YORK CITY — A comely Columbia Business School grad who had a lovechild with the late billionaire investor Bruce Wasserstein wants her little girl to have use of his custom-designed East Hampton pad to help the toddler connect to her dead dad.

For more than a year, Erin McCarthy has demanded that the trustees of Wasserstein's estate grant her 5-year-old daughter access to the 26-acre beachfront property, claiming that a child psychologist said the stays would be therapeutic.

When trustees rebuffed her requests, she went to court, claiming they play favorites by allowing Wasserstein's five other children to use the property, but barring her daughter because she was born out of wedlock.

Those five siblings offer a different reason — they don't want to be around McCarthy, 41, who they say destroyed their dad's longtime marriage and once broke into the East Hampton property, "terrorizing" little children, court records show.

While the five siblings acknowledge McCarthy's daughter as an equal beneficiary of his fortune, they say the girl barely spent time in the East Hampton home before Wasserstein's untimely death and that she doesn't hold the same cherished memories of the grounds as them.

"No one would want to be forced to share a home with strangers, particularly ones who caused the dissolution of their family," a lawyer for three of the siblings wrote in a response to McCarthy's legal action.

When Wasserstein, the head of investment firm Lazard and the owner of New Yorkmagazine, died suddenly at 61 in 2009, he left behind an estimated $2.2 billion fortune, a widow, three ex-wives and six children.

Five of his children — ranging from teenagers to 30-somethings — come from two marriages. The mother of his two youngest sons is Claude Wasserstein, the investor's third wife.

Wasserstein's marriage to Claude fell apart in 2007 when he began an affair with McCarthy, according to court papers. While they were together, McCarthy said he wanted her to get pregnant and helped her conceive through in-vitro fertilization. But the relationship was short-lived, ending before McCarthy gave birth to their daughter in June 2008.

The affair crushed Wasserstein's other children, who at the time were mourning the death of their beloved aunt, Pulitzer prize-winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein, and a grandmother.

"Rather than being available to focus on helping his family to heal and adjust, it was clear that my father was distracted by his affair with [McCarthy], and then by her objections to his termination of that affair," his daughter Scoop Wasserstein said in an affidavit connected to the legal action. "It felt like our father was taken away from us when we needed him most."

McCarthy again stressed out the family during a blowup in August 2008, when Wasserstein was vacationing at the East Hampton property with his two youngest sons. Though he no longer dated McCarthy, he paid for her and their infant daughter to stay in a nearby home so they could visit.

While out one day with his new girlfriend, his future fourth wife Angela Chao, Wasserstein bumped into McCarthy and their daughter on a street but didn't introduce them, according to multiple affidavits.

A sobbing McCarthy and her daughter later walked into Wasserstein's home while he was out, according to an affidavit by his sons' nanny. An estate manager eventually got McCarthy to leave and drove her home. But at the rental house, McCarthy nearly ran over the employee, the affidavit says.

About 3:30 a.m. the next day, McCarthy barged into the East Hampton home with her crying infant daughter. After discovering Chao in Wasserstein's bedroom, McCarthy began screaming, "You're dad's a bastard," within earshot of his sons, according to multiple affidavits.

Claude Wasserstein said the meltdown left her two boys traumatized.

"I have also been concerned for their safety since the incident, since Erin seems to have no qualms about terrorizing young children," she wrote in an affidavit.

In a court filing responding to the allegations, McCarthy said she didn't break into the home, noting she had a key to the front gate and knew the doors would be open. She said her outburst came about because she was suffering from postpartum depression. She also heard Chao's voice in the bedroom and didn't know Wasserstein had began a new relationship, she said.

After Wasserstein's death, his sprawling East Hampton property and other assets were placed in trusts administered by longtime friends and business associates on behalf of his six children.

McCarthy's daughter eventually stands to inherit $75 million from a trust, according to court records. She also currently receives nearly $200,000 each summer to rent a Hamptons estate, lives in a multimillion Manhattan apartment paid for by Wasserstein and gets tens of thousands of dollars in support a month, court papers say.

But Wasserstein's East Hampton home, known as Cranberry Dune, appears to be the most coveted possession among all the siblings. The property, sitting on tony Further Lane next to Jerry Seinfeld's home, has been in the family for 20 years and has hosted older siblings' weddings and bar mitzvahs.

McCarthy said that while they were a couple, Wasserstein told her how he personally designed his estates and filled them with historic treasures in order to build a lasting legacy, like William Randolph Hearst did at his mansion in San Simeon, Calif.

"They are also homes of his creation, reflecting his tastes and personality that cannot be experienced by [my daughter] by other means," she wrote in her petition.

Those concrete connections to Wasserstein are the reasons why she sued the trustees in Manhattan Surrogate's Court in April 2012, accusing them of bias and demanding immediate access to the home.

After her filing, the five siblings offered the girl the choice of the Wasserstein's Santa Barbara ranch or Paris apartment if she would give up rights to Cranberry Dune. But the proposal failed.

David Stoll, a lawyer for Wasserstein's three oldest children, declined to comment for the story.

In March 2013, a judge dismissed McCarthy's filing. However, a proceeding on how to split Wasserstein's assets is ongoing.

The trustees maintain that the most equitable solution is to pay McCarthy's daughter a one-fifth share of the market value of the East Hampton home. The other siblings would then continue to own equal shares of the properties.

Eric Penzer, a lawyer appointed by the court to represent the interests of McCarthy's daughter, agrees with the trustees' solution and has filed court papers in support.

"[The child's] interests are my first, last and only concern," Penzer told DNAinfo.com New York. "I am here to make sure she gets everything that's she's entitled to."

Penzer also had a child psychiatrist examine McCarthy's daughter to determine the emotional impact of not visiting Cranberry Dune.

The psychiatrist's report said that the little girl has no meaningful memories of her dad and that her Hamptons visits would create arguments and hurt her development. The report also said that photographs were the best way for children to have a relationship with a dead parent, but noted the paucity of pictures at McCarthy's home.

"It is surprising that Erin proposes that [her daughter] needs a connection with Bruce's possessions, yet she has only two photographs of [her daughter] with her father in their apartment," he wrote in his report.

McCarthy's lawyers did not respond to a request for comment.

A Billionaire With A Hamptons Mansion Bigger Than The White House Wants More Space For A Pilates Studio

ira rennert sagaponack houseSometimes 64,389 square feet just doesn't cut it. We've all been there.

For billionaire Ira Rennert, it was time to add a pilates studio, spa bath, sauna, steam shower, and three extra bathrooms to one of the two pool houses on his Hamptons estate, Newsday reports.

But in a bit of poetic justice, Rennert — who amassed his $6.5 billion net worth from junk bonds  needs zoning approval from the Village of Sagaponack.

From Newsday:

The single bathroom at the pool "greatly under-serves a family social gathering," the application states. The closest bathroom in the main house "is over a 200-foot, several-minute, indirect walking distance away."

The 633-square-foot addition to the existing 386-square-foot pool house "would complete the offerings of a modern, fully equipped family swimming facility," the application says.

[Rennert's lawyer] Flanagan, in an interview, said, "Quite frankly, to walk several hundred feet to go to the bathroom is inappropriate."

One of Rennert's neighbors summed the whole thing up pretty well: "Enough already."

Wooldon Manor vince camuto house

Shoe tycoon Vince Camuto and his former beauty queen wife have put their historic Southampton estate on the market for a staggering $48 million price tag.

Known as Wooldon Manor, the mansion has approximately 10,000 square feet of space, and sits on over five acres of land with views of the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Agawam. It's currently being sold through Sotheby's International Realty.

The estate — which has a gorgeous pool, pool house, formal gardens, a romantic green house, and tennis court — was previously owned by both the Woolworth family and Edmund Lynch, a founding partner of Merrill Lynch.

According to celebrity real estate blog The Real Estalker, the Camutos redecorated the famous home after purchasing the 14.29 acres of land it sits on. Though the current price includes the home plus five and a quarter acres of land, the listing hints that the nine additional acres the couple owns can also be purchased (for an additional fee, of course).

Wooldon Manor sits on the iconic oceanfront drive, Gin Lane.

Richard Gere Hamptons Mansion $65 million

Real estate blog Curbed Hamptons is reporting that Richard Gere has listed his North Haven home for a whopping $65 million.

The 6.3-acre estate, known as Strongheart Manor ,was built in 1902, and comes with two guest houses, an outdoor fireplace pavilion, and a dock that looks out on the water.

It's been renovated and expanded to include twelve bedrooms and over 12,000 square feet of space, and is currently available through Sotheby's International Realty.

And though the home is nice, we can't help but agree with Curbed Hamptons that the house is rather normal looking, and not worth the outrageous $65 million price tag.

Welcome to Richard Gere's $65 million Strongheart Manor.
